How can you really do Teshuvah from the heart? Repentance and Elul are not just nice jewish concepts that make a nice torah class – they are real amazing things that need to be taken advantage of, the amazing and deep spiritual opportunities. Most people have a misconception of what the word Teshuva means. If people hear a class where the rabbi talks about how everyone needs to do teshuva, one person is going to take on a new mitzvah, another is going to pray earlier, another is going to start putting on tefilin, but no one is going to actually do Teshuva, which is repenting and confessing in front of God. Even though it's very good to change your ways and improve your spiritual service for the future, that does not fulfill the mitzvah and obligation for doing Teshuvah – Standing in front of Hashem, confessing what you did wrong, and apologizing. That is what we need to use hitbodedut and the jewish meditation for – to use that time that we have alone with God to really work on ourselves and clean ourselves of all of our past sins, not just to work on preventing future sins. Great class for preparing for Rosh Hashanah 2016, and preparation for Yom Kippur 2016.
